Let me start by saying; Designing my entryway table is one of my favorite “quick projects” of all time. This is the first thing people see when you open the front door! Essentially, this piece of perfection sets the mood for your entire home [After-all, you only get ONE first impression].
It has to be…
- Cute
- Cozy/ “Homey”
- Eye Catching
- Conversation Worthy
It has to be YOU! Have fun with this; What look/ vibe are you going for, in your home?
Something people tell me all the time is…
Katye, I have no idea what look I am going for; That is why I am talking to you!
– Literally, Almost Everyone I know
Maybe you don’t know your “style” yet; Maybe you don’t even have a specific style at all. Guess what, that is totally A-Okay! I don’t have a specific style either [If you have read my about me page, then you already know that there is an entire paragraph dedicated to attempting to describe my “style”].
I like a lot of different things; As I am sure you do.
You do not have to fit into any specific category. Pick and choose what you like and we can decide how to merge it all together to build…
The perfect look!
Below I have listed components that, I feel make up that perfect, Pinterest worthy entryway table…
- Table
- This can be any size, shape, or color you decide [Whatever will fit the space that you are trying to fill].
- A picture of you, your family, or anything that seems important and relevant to those whom live there
- Wall Decor [Art, mirrior, an arch, etc.]
- I really like the look of a large centered piece of wall decor.
- Quote pieces are great to add an element of personality
- Such as, [I apologize, it is difficult to read the bottom sign; I took this picture at night] the sign below my table that states…
Find JOY in the journey.
I love this positive and inviting quote being placed at the entrance of our home.
- Smell Goods
- Everyone feels differently on this topic. However, I personally am that obnoxious person with 50 lbs of perfume on [A.K.A probably too much for some].
- Therefore, I feel that it is important to have a FABULOUS scented home.
- I have an individual candle [I light this from time-to-time], a pillar votive -From our wedding decor- that also houses a candle [Mainly for looks- I never light this one really], and a Scentsy warmer [This is hidden behind my picture frame and is what gives off yummy smells continuously].
- This does not have to be overpowering; Remember, [Even if you are a “smell good snob” like me] not everyone wants to be overwhelmed by your pumpkin latte scented candle.
- Cozy/ Homey Decor [Pillows below your table, a basket holding a blanket, etc.]
- Sentimental Items [Letters, an old family journal, family heirlooms, wedding paper-goods, a framed drawing from your kids, etc.]
- This is the perfect way for your guests to really get to know you and what you view as important in your life.
- These are great conversation pieces
- Relatable [Chances are, if someone is coming to your home, they either already know that they can relate to you or they know enough about you to want to know more]
- I actually have a few “sentimental” items pictured
- A letter from my husband before we were married [Rolled sheets of paper inside of the rustic “1,2,3” housing; On the right side of the table]
- An old family compass [On the front left of the table]
- A wooden carved box from our wedding [White/ natural wood colored on the front left of the table]
- Our wedding invitation, envelope, and RSVP card [Inside of the metal hung envelopes to the left of the table itself]
- Greenery/ Floral
- This is a great way to add a pop of color [I love natural earth tones- So I went with greenery]
- Fill in decor
- These are the pieces of decor that catch your eye at T.J.Maxx or Homegoods when you are scanning the isles looking for the “cute things” that no one really needs [But everyone loves]. -So naturally, you’re going to purchase anyway.
- The glass, votive enclosed clock, lanterns, vintage books, and the “Hi” sign are the ones I have pictured above.
Another point I would like to make is….
….Don’t be afraid to refurbish different decor pieces.
In this particular set up, I refurbished two items [Listed below].
[[Future posts to come about finding the perfect items to refurbish and save money.]]
Be watching!
- The large green mirror
- I actually bought this mirror for only $20 from Pier 1
- It was navy blue and the siding had fallen off in some places [Essentially, it was damaged goods]
- I HATED the navy color; But I thought to myself…
I wonder if I could re-paint this mirror and give it a more distressed look.. Could we use it for our entryway?
Could I bring this piece back to life?
…So, I did just that; I have used this mirror for 4 years now and always get compliments on it.
- The table itself!
- I purchased this table from Kirklands, for a steal, during one of their big sales [60% OFF]
- It was a dark brown color.. I hated it!- BUT I loved the shape of the table
- The shape of a table is something that is much harder to change [Unless you can build your own furniture]
- It is also [usually] harder to find the shape you want in stores; It is even harder to find the right shape for and equally good price
So, I bought it at a great price [I am not positive what the exact number was now, but I never forget a great deal] and decided to sand down the finish. Once doing this, I stained it a natural/ gray color; To match my other wooden furniture.
Below I have linked some of the stores where I purchased the decor pieces shown above…
